We say goodbye to Monterey and drive through John Steinbeck's hometown of Salinas - we see so many crops - but are especially enjoying all of the fields of artichokes.  We tried three times to pull over and take photos - but it just wasn't possible - too much traffic - too many steep drop offs - and then when we could stop - we weren't in the right place.  Our drive today takes us up to Napa Valley where we will spend three nights.  We needed to pick up a few things for Costa Rica - so what better place than in San Jose - CA.  We just happened to be driving through and all the places we needed to stop at were close to each other.  We continued on and arrived in Fairfield, California - home of.....Jelly Belly.  They have a large Visitors Center, store and restaurant.  We really enjoyed seeing everything there - and Will - guess what you are getting?!?!  Len - tell Johann that he has a special treat coming from the U.S. for him in about another week!  We decided to eat at the restaurant - we were tired and hungry - plus where else in the world can you get a Jelly Belly Cheeseburger?!

Jelly Belly Bean Capital of the World
What a HOOT! An entire town devoted to the Jelly Bean. I remember seeing the Reagan Cabinet sitting around an oval table passing the Jelly Bean jar before their meetings. The Jelly Bean mosaics certainly captured the President's facial features and infectious smile.
