Hi all,
Sorry that I haven't updated for a while but we haven't had access for a bit.
After Kyoto, we went south to Hiroshima, which was very somber. We then headed more south.
On Friday the 13th, we tried Fugu, the famed poison blowfish, in Shimonoseki, which is famous for the fish. It makes good sushi. The night before, we had slept in a Capsule motel (anyone read Neuromancer). It was actually quite comfortable.
Then, we went to the very tip of the southern island of Kyushu. We camped out in Kobayashi, in a field, and then went hiking around volcanoes in Kirishima park in Kagoshima. The volcanoe hike was beautiful.
We then headed back up here to Karuizawa, where we are staying in a luxury resort (thanks Mom and Dad for the timeshare) called XIV (Eksiv). After camping and sleeping on floors of hostels, the beds are amazing! We have holed up in the room, since Karuizawa is a getaway for the rich and famous and we can't really afford anything. We are set with groceries, beer, and music.
On Saturday, we head back to Tokyo, from which we will fly to Thailand on Sunday and begin the second half of our trip.
I will update when I can. Oh, sorry but no pictures. I will try to upload some from Bryan's house but it is hard at the net cafe's and we don't get much time at them either.
Hope you are all well,
Jimmy
