After my diving adventures I want to spend my last days and nights in the center of Cairns to meet some new people and party a bit. I say goodbye to Jonny. Thanks buddy for the hospitality and the quality time! I move in to the YHA hostel which is situated between the bar street and a big shopping mall. Perfect! The hostel is nice and clean and has a pool. I really feel like partying tonight and it's only Thursday. I don't care, I've made up my mind and decided to buy some beers and drink them in the hostel garden. An older Australian man asks me if he can sit at my table. That's fine by me. I ask him what he is drinking. He's drinking Goon...
It is sort of an uncommon thing to see a 50+ guy backpacking and hanging out with a younger crowd, but not entirely weird. But a 50+ guy drinking Goon is weird! For those who don't know, Goon is a crappy, tasteless, horrible fruitwine that comes in four liter bags you can buy for a few bucks at the liquor store. Aboriginals and budget backpackers love this shit and get really pissed on it. I hate this stuff, tried it once but I'd rather have quality over quantity.
Fun fact: sometimes Aboriginals use the Goonbag as a pillow for sleeping :) Anyways, a 50+ guy drinking Goon, that's gonna be interesting.. As soon as he sits down at my table he tells me his whole life story. I only listen and let him talk because he does not notice he's speaking
non stop. He's getting a bit drunk and it's sort of sad and entertaining at the same time. I'm getting really tired of this guy though and I want to leave. As polite as I am I don't just walk away. Luckily the guy found another victim he invited on over to the table to tell his sad
life stories to. This is my way out :) I tell the old guy duty calls and the bar needs me to help finish drinking up some beers.
I end up in the Woolshed. I order a beer and have an interesting talk to a guy from New Guinea. Apparently it's ladies night because some guys are giving away a dance show for the ladies. So I leave the dancefloor back to the bar again to order a beer. I meet up with some other guys from England and Canada. Before I know it my little solo bar tour changes into a group excursion, nice! We have another couple of beers and some laughs before we call it a night.
The next day I decide to check out the lagoon, which is just a big public toilet actually, but it has a nice grass field to hang out. Back in my hostel I'm chilling out in the pool when suddenly somebody calls my name. It's Dan, the Canadian guy from last nights bar tour. We decide we're hitting the bars again tonight :D
But first I'm meeting up with Luci, a friend of my Dutch New Zealand friend, Emma. Luci is Brazilian and moved to Cairns. She and Emma met on one of their travels. Emma introduced us and Luci helped me out a little bit with trying to sell my car. We have a good talk about all kinds of stuff. I ask her if she wants to join me to the bars where I meet up with Dan and some of the other guys of last night. Luci likes to party so she's in.
We all meet up at PJ's, an Irish pub. Everybody is enjoying their selves and we frequently raise our glasses to toast loudly in a group-cheers!
Lucy asks me about my opinion about Australian girls.
My response: 'Well don't get me wrong, but a lot of Australian girls are basically just guys with long hair!'
Luci almost spits out her drink and is laughing for 5 strait minutes! She's not able to drink a sip cause of the laughing. Therefor I can't stop laughing either. And on top of that the other guys are doing a cheers-shout every minute now. This night is hilarious already! After PJ's we're off to Giligans, a big club. And big it is! It even has an attic. Most of us are not allowed up there  because of their flip flops. I am wearing shoes, lucky me.. The attic is a little V.I.P. area that  isn't that special so I join my friends again downstairs to party the night away. My last day in Cairns I spend chilling at the Lagoon and talking to my new Dutch roomies. Australia has been amazing to me! I've met so many nice people and I really enjoyed discovering the beauty and diversities of this land! But it's time to move on again.. to Indonesia for Christmas and New Years!
