After surviving the Rockhampton heatwave I arrive in a slightly cooler place called Airlie Beach. It's the take off point for the famous Whit Sundays Islands. I've booked a 2 days and 2 nights trip on the Kondor, a former sail racer. Our group consists of 30 persons from all over the world. We have the States, Canada, Germany, England, Denmark, Sweden and even a Mr Escobar from Colombia on board. Sailing is fantastic. Especially with the sun and a beautiful horizon full of islands. Our group is getting to know each other while drinking some beers. In the late afternoon we get to snorkle near a nice little reef in front of one of the islands. For our protection we need to wear stingersuits because it is jellyfish season and the ocean is starting to get infested with them. The reef is actually not one of the best I've seen. But having an encounter with a small white tip reefshark makes up for it!After the snorkle we set sail to our overnight stop, just in front of a small island. It's my first night on a boat. Everbody is enjoying the evening while listening to music and having a laugh. The next morning we go for an early snorkle. After a few meters I notice that I'm completely surrounded by small jellyfish. Luckely I'm wearing my stingersuit. Still my hands and head aren't covered and I feel a few stings. The little bastards got me. Ah well, these are the non dangerous ones and the sting goes away after a few minutes. But getting out of the water seems a good choice though. After lunch we lower the anchor in a small bay with some big turtles present, gasping for air on te surface. This is our stop to get off for our main spot of today: Whithaven Island, or White Heaven as I like to call it :) We have to cross a small hill to go to the lookout point. Seriously... This is indeed by far the most beautiful beach I've ever seen! Bright white sand with crystal clear blue waters, breathtaking..  Well I sure as hell want to walk on that beach and take a swim so we head down, put on our stingersuits and go into the water. We're looking for stingrays cause the water is very shallow. I spot quite a few of them and I can get real close and almost touch them. Ofcourse I won't ;) I even see some tiny lemonsharks. It's time for a little activity: play catch! We're throwing a mortar shaped ball that makes an incoming rocket sound. We're letting the kids come out and play :D The day ends with a nice dinner, drinks and music. Whithaven was above my expectations, I had an awesome time! Tomorrow I'll drive to a nice little Island called Magnetic Island :)
