My last destination today is Cape Tribulation. This is a fantastic coastal drive which in my opinion should be called 'The Great Pacific Road'. Driving through little towns, through rainforest and along stunning coastlines listening to Triple J radio, a very nice last part of my final roadtrip! At Cape Tribulation I litterally cannot drive any further because my car simply is not build to drive offroad. I am spending the night in a hostel in the jungle next to the beach. This is one of these remote areas where you don't have a phone signal. I spend my night talking to some other backpackers and listening to the sounds of the jungle.
I wake up early to see the Cape Tribulation point, which if you ask me is a bit overrated. I take a few more walks to see the environment. In a way I hope to see a Cassowarry. It's a big prehistorical bird (up to 2 meters) with massive leggs and claws not able to fly. They are endangered and can be very dangerous and even deadly if you cross their path. I spot a small one of 70 cms trying to find food on the ground. It doesn't seem to notice me..
It's high tide and the beach dissappeared completely and only mangroves are left. This looks interesting, a tropical rainforest almost in the sea. I want to take a picture of this and move close to te water.. And suddenly I thought I might wanna stay away from the edge because of the saltwater crocs.. So I took my pictures on a safe distance :)
After this little jungle track it's time to get back to Cairns, enjoy my last long drive before I hopefully sell my car!
