After getting up early to watch the Rose Parade, Liz and I returned to our little flat in Los Feliz at about 10.30 to spruce up and grab some breakfast. The freeways were clear, and the wispy clouds were beginning to clear.

We arranged to pick up Olivia and Lydia from their party in Burbank, before returning to Juliette's for a very nice late lunch. Olivia and Lydia then headed for bed.....they had had around 2 hours' sleep the night before, and were clearly drooping!

Juliette, Liz, myself and Lara headed out for an afternoon walk at Runyon Canyon, in the hills above LA. To get there we drove along Mulhullond Drive, which snakes along the hilltops overlooking the city, and has appeared in loads of films, including one by David Lynch (called, funnily enough, Mulholland Drive). The views from both here and the Canyon are spectacular, and photos don't really do it justice.

After the walk we returned to Pasadena for a late afternoon coffee at Busters, on the lovely little high street in South Pasadena. We sat outside on a terrace slightly warmed by the sun's setting rays, watching the trains go by to our right.....and the coffee was GREAT!

The rest of the evening was spent chatting in Juliette's flat - Cameron appeared and we had a good literary discussion (!), and suddenly a fantastic spaghetti bolognese appeared out of nowhere, which was a perfect ending to a rather lazy New Year's Day.

Today (Wednesday) we are off to Santa Barbara for a few days....the weather is getting a little warmer (20 degrees promised for later), so we are hoping for some relaxation in the sun!
