Guys Gone Fishin', Celebrating Christmas & Sonoran Sunsets

Hello to all our Family & Friends...

May the spirit of Christmas abide with you and bring you and yours happiness and peace throughout this Holy Season and 2013...

23DEC2012 was an exciting day for the guys... we hired a boat and ran down the coast to several of the coral reefs that the captain had marked on his GPS and we spent several hours fishing...   sea bass, trigger fish and a grouper ... I guess over the course of several hours we caught a medium size cooler full of fish.  And by the time they were cleaned we had maybe 20 lbs of fillets...

I was kidded by the guys for only wearing a sweat shirt over my tee where they had coats... but the weatherman turned out to be right and the sea was calm, and as the sun rose in the sky it got warm enough to shed the sweat shirt..  Per the fish finder we were in 85 ft of water and while we anchored and fished, 5 seals showed up, and played for us for an hour or so...  we had several pelicans around us the whole time and tried a couple of times to pull our fish off line as we tried to land them....   and on the trip in we had at least a dozen of dolphins swim alongside the boat for 30 min or so....    It's a thrill to get into this warm water and sea life that's around here…

We got home, had a glass of wine and sat around the camp fire and chatted for a while until the sun went down and it got chilly…  we fired up the BBQ and put about 1/3 of the fish on the BBQ and cooked them to perfection...  as we sat in Gary's unit enjoying the meal we chatted about the day...  what we'd done and finally broke up and went our separate ways... Of Course, what beach meal is complete without S’Mores!  Yep, we did! Yummmmmmmmy!

Christmas Day, Puerto Penasco

We were up late last night so this a.m. was a lazy morning...  We got out of the RV and did the traditional trip to walk Rowdy..  Like every day this week we walk a mile to a mile and a half and Rowdy must do close to 10 miles.. I don't think that he stops the whole time we're walking...   up one hill down to the path, up the hill on the other side, back and forth, back and forth....   and we keep calling him back to us...  calling him back to re-enforce his training of returning to us...

As we made it back to the RV park we had time to relax get something cold to drink.. Rowdy drank his fill of water and as we looked out the window we saw the daily trip through the park of the Federal Police...  4 of them in a side x side with their helmets on, their assault rifles, and masks to cover their face...   they typically take one or two passes through the park and than their back out and down the road...

We were told to show up at 1:00 to start happy hour...  and get things rolling to get the turkey on the BBQ and relax...   we had a few drinks, got the turkey on and over a couple of hours we are sitting their chatting and the turkey cooks..  we had invited Alf, who is a local and when all 7 of us were there and ready we had a great turkey Christmas dinner 100 ft off the water....   Turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, potatoes, veggies...   and all the trimmings....   as we were sitting there after dinner Daniel showed up with his 2 boys...  one 22 and the other 14...   they were walking the beach selling some of their wears...   I guess Daniel is an old friend of Dale who spends time here every year...   so now our 7 has turned to 10 and we've fed them all... This reminds me of home as a kid . . . we always had extras especially for the Holidays, so another plate or two wasn’t a big deal . . . Washing a couple more plates wasn’t a big deal either!

Around 6:30 the sun has gone down, Connie has taken all kinds of photos and we're getting cold so we pack up, get cleaned up and head home… of course for us... home is 500 yards away....

We're sitting in the RV relaxing and getting stuff put away and cleaned up and we hear this thump/rattle on the outside of the RV…  checking it out, we find Gracie on our doorstep ...  One of Dale's dogs has wandered out of camp and headed to our camp... she's been here daily as we go walking with Dale and his dogs in the morning so she comes into the trailer, makes herself at home. . .  like it’s her second home...   we decide to walk her back home and Connie heads out with her and a flashlight heading back Dale & Gail’s house...  As Connie approaches their RV we hear Gail standing outside the RV calling and looking for Gracie…  so it turned out just right... Of course Gracie has earned a Christmas rawhide treat from the Gale’s and Rowdy;  one for her and one for Tasha!

26DEC2012 Connie has been taking pictures of our travels all along the way . . . She has submitted some of her photos in a photo contest for pictures taken on Federal lands . . . BLM, NPS, Bureau of Reclamation, National Forest Service  etc.  Go into the www.ShareTheExperience.com website, type Connie Gale in the search box and see her photos . . . You can vote for her pictures if you have Facebook . . . If you do not have Facebook you can still enjoy Connie’s  and all the other photos submitted by going into the Gallery… Enjoy!

Also, watch for Jim’s blog on How to BBQ a turkey at the Beach . . . he’s busy been working on the narrative!

We are leaving Puerto Penasco tomorrow morning coming home thru Yuma, AZ . . . Our next Travel Blog will be from Yuma, AZ

Happy Trails until we meet again!  Jim & Connie and Rowdy too!
