Merry Christmas 2012 & Happy New Year 2013

May the spirit of Christmas abide with you and bring you Health, Happiness, Peace and Joy . . . We have a lot to be Thankful for in 2012 . . .

We are Thankful for a wonderful and rewarding year and hope that you and yours have been as happy and blessed as we've been…

We’re sitting here at our home in AZ, enjoying the sunshine… it’s been a warmer than normal winter here… lows in the low 50’s and the highs so far in the high 70’s to low 80’s. We are even more thankful when we hear that Spokane had snow last night!  The warm weather seems to be good for the aches and pains that go with getting older!

Over the course of this past year, we’ve spent a total of 7 weeks doing volunteer work at Golden Spike National Historic Site… where we’ve spent time working and learning about Steam Locomotives that used to cross this great country… and another 6 weeks doing volunteer work at Bonneville Fish Hatchery (ODFW) at Bonneville Dam on the Columbia River. where we spent time working and learning our assigned tasks and in our spare time we had the time to see the complete hatchery… we followed 11 million fish through the rearing process, clipping of their adipose fin by computer and their being trucked out to various rivers and streams in the Columbia River drainage system for release into the system. One of Jim’s chores was feeding the sturgeon in the ponds and later in our stay was the lowering of the pond and the cleaning of the viewing window from the pond side… and being bumped by the sturgeon while cleaning the pond… think about a 500 lb fish, who’s curious about who’s in his area and what’s he doing… They love to swim between people and the window and to bump them just for the fun of it….

We are thankful to share our travels with you so that you can live vicariously thru us . . . Hopefully through the year you’ve followed our blog.  If you have an interest, please drop a note to congale@live.com and get on our blog list.  You’ll be directed to a web site where photos and text are posted on our travels… Enjoy!

We are Thankful for a week of relaxation, fishing and viewing wild life at Georgetown Lake, MT and then Yellowstone for another 8-10 days…   In Yellowstone we spent the better part of 2 days watching Grizzly’s, Wolves, Coyotes and magnificent birds of prey.  We also found time to make it to our Family Reunion and then spend a week at the beach with our grandchildren. We also spent a week in Bend, OR visiting our Cousins Charlie & Marilyn and attending a wedding.

We are thankful that . . . Our grand daughter had an illness in January that put her/us thru a workup for brain tumor, which turned out to be negative; our Mother and our Aunt have recently been diagnosed with bone cancer are in good spirits; a friend who has recently been diagnosed with breast cancer, is receiving chemo and able to remain independent; our sister who had recent brain surgery is recovering well.  Sometimes we are given a wake-up call with the potential for serious illness . . . that turns out to be just that. . . a wake-up call!  It helps you understand those areas in your life that you may have taken so much for granted and need to celebrate the ordinary . . . And, all you have to do is look around to see those that are worse off than you . . .  Thank you all for your prayer and support for family and friends that have been stricken with injury or illness.

We finished off the year in Mexico, Puerto Penasco in the warmth of the Sonoran Sun at Sandy Beach blessed with friends to share the Holiday Celebration!  Many of you had a White Christmas . . . our white Christmas is in form of white sands of Sandy Beach!  Nevertheless, we wish you were to share with us!  We are planning our return to the US thru Yuma, AZ 27DEC2012.

While here in AZ we’d like to remind any of you who might be in the area this winter… We’ve got an extra bed here in the house and another in the RV… if you have time and are in our area stop by… we’d love to see you…

Merry Christmas!  Feliz Navidad!  Happy Trails! Jim, Connie & Rowdy too!
