What I did
BodegaAurrera (WalMart) in Puerto Penasco and Sam's Club

In light of the elementary school shootings in CT, we all find ourselves in mourning . . . and it heightens our appreciation and the preciousness of family. Life has many definitions of family also called community.  We need to say to you how much, you as part of our family, are appreciated and loved, and we don't want to miss any opportunity to say so.  We love you!

17DEC2012 Monday was an adventure . . .

We went to town to do a little grocery and pick up a few supplies  . . .  First we had to drive thru Rodeo Drive and our first stop was at BodegaAurrera  this is Puerto Penasco's  WalMart . . .  They even have WalMart name tags/badges only in Espanol . . . We learned a lot . . . they didn’t have canned hominy . . . after finally finding a clerk that could speak English we found it in the deli case!  Also looked for canned green beans and could not find them anywhere . . . only to find out that they are fresh all year around here so they don’t can their green beans!  They also don’t know what cocktail sauce for shrimp cocktails . . . They kept redirecting us back to the sauces isle pointing to the bottles (all sizes) of hot sauce!  Gail came to the rescue and shared her recipe so improvised with catsup and horseradish.  Anyway, the Bodega is layed out much differently than WalMart at home!  We needed the Oster "O" that seals the blade mechanism to the jar, which we bumbled onto first thing . . . Since we're in Mexico and will be sharing some meals with friends we went looking for some Tequila and Sangrita (not Sangria)...  the Jose Cuervo was 120 Pecos, today a US  $ is about 13 Pecos so our 990 ML bottle was a little over $9.45 and the bottle of Sangrita was about $3.64...  Tequila to be Tequila has to come from that part of Mexico where the Agave plant grows and for it to be good Tequila it needs to be distilled from 100% Agave...  no sugar cane or other sugars added to help the fermentation process...

There's now a Sam's Club here ...  since we enjoy Costco we've never joined Sam Club and there isn't one close to us in Spokane or Arizona City... Our next stop was at the Sam’s Club just next door to the Bodega . . . now being from the Pacific Northwest we have a Costco card . . . We don’t have a membership to Sam’s Club!  Not speaking much Spanish and they don’t speak much English we find it hard to communicate!  Go Figure!  Sometimes the message sent is NOT the same as the message received! Since we don't have a membership I told Connie lets walk into the service desk and get a day pass and we had to ask 2 or 3 people before we found someone who understood us...   once we got the day pass and went in we found it was no more than about 1/3 the size of a normal Costco in size..  and very limited in what they have...  we didn't find what we wanted at the pharmacy and only some of what we wanted in the rest of the store..

It used to be that bathrooms here we're called Bano's, now in the stores at least they’re called Sanitation Stations and in the 3 different stores I stopped in the bathrooms had no wash basins and you exited the bathroom for a common shared wash area… I assume because it's cheaper to make one wash area for all....

We needed a wiper blade for the truck and passed an Auto Zone...  laid out just like an Auto Zone or O'Riley's in the US..  Found the wiper blades with no problem and looked at 3 brands that I know from the US..  but they are 60 % higher here and I looked at where they are manufactured.... All from China even the American brand...   and I know that Mexico has a duty on products from China that is from 50-95% of the value of the goods...   Mine was rotted from being in the sun so I bought one and replaced it...

Had roasted turkey with Dale and Gail and a small group . . . We brought baked potatoes,  Pozole . . . a chicken soup with green chiles (mild) hominy (called pazole), fresh loaf of sweet potato bread and of course a bottle of wine.  There is nothing better than having turkey dinner on the beach with friends and family!  Of course I took pictures of the turkey cooker and topped it off with a sunset.

I hear a thump, thump, thump on our RV roof only to find the resident Pigeons on our roof . . . Bummer . .. NOT Santa Claus, I was so in hopes that St. Nick would be there!

We have water in our campsite . . . It is suitable for cooking, showers and washing  dishes . . . We have been advised to NOT drink the water so we have been looking for a booth that dispenses purified drinking water to fill our 5gal water jug . . . That is part of Wednesday’s  Adventure . . . Happy Trails!  Jim & Connie . . . & Rowdy!
