15 SEP 2012  Homeward Bound thru BIG SKY Country Montana

Today is transition time . . . bittersweet . . . we are packing up the RV and heading home to Nine Mile Falls, WA . . . We awoke to a nice surprise . . . two huge holes in the ground behind the RV revealed new excavation . . . Our Camp Hosts Rodney & Diana thought the earth movers were Badgers . . . however, there was no one in the holes to reveal themselves!  I guess we'll have to leave that up to everyone's (including ours) imagination! We put on fresh water and departed Bakers Hole Campground around 11 am Mountain time heading toward Bozeman, Montana where we picked up I-90.

As we traveled West we noticed the air and hills full of hazey smoke drifting in from Wildfires.  Some areas thicker than others but enough to smell the smoke in the air.  We stopped for the night at a rest area just outside Deer Lodge Montana.

Grant-Kohrs Ranch National Historic Site http://www.nps.gov/grko/historyculture/index.htm  where "by 1885, cattle raising was the biggest industry on the High Plains. The open-range cattle industry lasted only three decades. Few of its pioneering men and women made their fortunes or are remembered today. But from their beginnings has evolved the more scientific ranching of today, with its own risks and uncertainties. That is the legacy of the Grants and the Kohrs, whose pioneer ranch, complete with original furnishings, is a reminder of an important chapter in the history of the West."  The smoke haze from the Wildfires was too great to get any good photography this trip, so we will share our pictures of this GREAT Historic Working Ranch from our last trip thru . . .

Continuing Travel West thru Montana, then Idaho (smoke haze was pretty much gone by the time we reached Coeur d'Alene)  and back home thru Spokane Washington to Nine Mile Falls WA.  We arrived home and were greeted with smiles by our neighbor kids who had custody of our lawn while we were away . . . And, it looked Pretty Good!

Happy Trails, until the next trip . . . And that is looking like around the first part of October when we will start heading South for the winter!
