Hoover Dam, Nevada

Highway 93 out of Las Vegas would have taken us over a new bridge that spans the Colorado just below Hoover Dam. But we decided to take a short detour to see the dam up close. I think there's a James Bond movie where he slides down the curved face of the dam to escape or catch a bad guy. If they allowed that, with proper safety precautions of course, the tour would have been a lot more exciting. Alternatively, it would have been a lot of fun to jump off the back side into Lake Mead. I think it was just about a sixty foot drop, maybe less, which is about the height of some of the cliffs we used to dive off of in Lake Travis. I imagine the water in Lake Mead is a bit colder, especially in January, but that would have made it all the more exhilarating. Unfortunately security was pretty Dam tight, and plus I didn't bring my swim trunks, so no go on the impromptu dam diving this time around.
