Our next day in Livorno we decided to check out Lucca, a charming ancient walled city located in Tuscany. We loved the charm, but even for a Sunday, this is QUITE a sleepy little burg. We only spent a few hours walking around town, taking a lot of pictures, and just soaking it all in. At one point we had talked of Lucca as a permanent home - but after further deliberations - NO WAY! We need a bigger city.
One thing I did notice about Lucca...if you're going to have a dog, it MUST be a Jack Russel Terrier. I mean everyone has a JRT...EVERYONE! What's up with that?
Earlier in the day I got a Facebook post from my cousin, Catia in Montelibretti, Italy. We had found one another earlier in the month, she contacting me via Facebook. She remembers our trip in 1968, and the wedding of her Uncle - the family was there for the festivities (think Michael's Wedding from the Godfather - Identical….I mean IDENTICAL)! She posted to my wall that she would like to see me when we get to Rome tomorrow! AWESOME! So we chatted with one another - not so easy, my Italian is not so good, and neither is her English! We'll work it out. We decided to meet at the Piazza Navona and I would wear a plaid blue shirt. Nervous, excited, emotional, scared - you name it I felt it!
