Another early rise, almost starting to get used to it, at least the breakfasts have started in the hotel. Karnak Travels rep was waiting for us in the hotel lobby, jumped into the mini bus for a two minute ride to the Iberotel Hotel, where the boat Le Lotus is berthed. Most amused to see the security detail humping a 30mm machine gun onto the boat, who were they expecting? Must admit, they do take the security of tourists seriously.
Set off for Dendera about 7am, a little bit chilly at first, started to take some rays on about 9.30 when the sun was properly up, quite leisurely journey, there is just something about going down the Nile on a boat that is very appealing.
Arrival at Dendera, about 11.10, our guide Mr Abdul, an excellent mine of information, we had 1½ hours in the temple complex, dedicated to Hathor, which is interesting in as much as it is the only temple where the Cleopatra of Roman fame is portrayed, along with her son Cesarean. It was back to the Lotus for lunch and the slightly longer journey back to Luxor, the day was still a bit hazy, but still managed to top up on the tan.
All in all a very enjoyable day, free of all the hassle you get on the streets, a good way to relax, BTW, the temple was not crowded at all, just some Egyptian schoolchildren and our 3 groups, joy of joys they put the French on their own bus.
