On arrival back at the hotel, it was straight into breakfast, later on we were going for a little stroll downtown, the reason being, Ahmed had invited us to his house for lunch, we wanted to find a bakery, so we could buy some pastries, we didn't want to go there empty handed, we had been speaking to an Australian tourist, who advised us on where he had bought some pastries earlier, so off we went. After many hints from various caleche and taxi drivers, telling us there was nothing about, we eventually found the place on Television St, Eclair Pastry, (so don't always believe those caleche drivers), we bought a kilo of pastries and a box of chocolates, I've really had enough of this haggling lark, so I just coughed up the asking price, this constant bickering over prices really gets me down. Yes I know, it's all part and parcel, just grates on me.
Went to Ahmeds, or should I say, he came for us, we would never have found where he lived in that rabbit warren, his parents, brother, sister and wife were in attendance, a whole extended family living under one roof, albeit a 3 storeys high roof, the home was a little spartan, but the warmth of the greeting we received was anything but, it is a moment we will hold dear to us.
Time to take on some rays, today is a bit of a rest day, after the early rise, just lounge by the pool for a wee while, maybe drink a cocktail or two. Dinner isn't until 8.30 pm.
Once again, it was surprise us time again, Went to Maros on the Corniche, they mainly specialize in fish dishes, sitting by the banks of the Nile is really quite exquisite. An excellent meal, in idyllic surroundings, it is slightly marred by the wide screen projector churning out the Egyptian top 10 or the latest football match, it does detract from the beauty of the
location.
Unfortunately, the staff are of limited ability, and their English skills are not really up to task, that is not a swipe, merely an observation, The food was superb, the cat was friendly, everything went without mishap, maybe their English was better than I gave them credit for, we did get what we ordered.
Time for bed, as again it has been a long tiring day.
