we arrived back at the Ruby, just in time for lunch. I had been speaking to Johanna, mentioning that we planned to go to kitchener Island, he said he was willing to arrange a boat to take us there, the motor boat was dirt cheap, 40 le for the return trip, regardless of how many passengers on board. The captain must have been all of 14 years old, the cox wain about 9, we couldn't have been in a safer pair of hands. They acted like they had been doing it all their lives, which they probably have.
Some others from our group decided to tag along as well, it was a bit ironic, but amidst all the hard sell on the Corniche, the captain laid out his wares on the bare deck, this is 1 euro, this is 2 euros and this is 3 euros, thats all he said, everyone bought something, he did about 20 euros worth of business on that short trip without uttering another sound, he could teach his peers on the shore a thing or two.
Kitchener Island, is in itself a small paradise, like paradise it has its serpents, these take the shape of vendors and bazarris. If you want to have a really pleasant afternoon stroll on this island, I would recommend it, a nice way to relax away from all the hullabaloo. some of the vegetation is unreal, something from another planet if you didn't know better. particularly impressive are some of the thorn trees, you could really inflict some serious harm on yourself trying to climb one.
Plenty of cats on the island as well, it's sad really, one of the crew told me they are dying out quite rapidly, must be some kind of cat virus going about, good news for the birds on the island
It was all to soon time to return to the Ruby, have a nap before dinner, so far it was shaping up to be another tiring day, so much to see and so few hours to see it in.
we were due to sail about 11pm, so after dinner we decided to take a walk on the Corniche, we only had to evade 3 papyrus salesman and 4 caleche drivers, maybe I am managing to say La Shukran, with the right inflection.
