Ji'nan is basically a huge city in which we were using as a travel hub to reach other destinations on the Shandong province, with lots of people ...very few of whom speak any english at all! We discovered this very quickly when we tried to book train tickets...not a sausage of english!!!
Spent 2 days here perfecting our charades and miming....Fortunately we had picked up a mandarin phrase sheet from Beijing with essentials like..."how much?"; "I don't eat meat" and "how delicious". Meal times are a struggle as we try to make sure Margarida doesn't get any meat in her meals.
Eventually managed to get train tickets to travel to the coastal town of Qingdao.
We also had our cheapest pint of the trip to date in Jinan - 1.5RNB that's 10 pence!!
Most exciting thing that happened here was that Jim shaved off the beard...yeah!!! (The official 'Facebook' vote was in favour of keeping it - but as I am the girlfriend, the weighting to my score was somewhat heavier - executive powers!!)*
* Moral of the story....let the wookie win......
