Had a great breakfast again around the table. Got talking to a girl from LA, who recommended some 'hidden gems' to visit when we get to California. Packed up and checked out.  With my back still bad, we decided to go to the movies! We went to a wicked old style movie theatre in the Adams Morgan area of DC. It was so cool. There was one huge curved movie screen and we sat up on the balcony to watch the film - The Informant, a really funny, true story starring Matt Damon.

Popped back to our B&B to collect our bags and then decided to take the scenic bus route through Georgetown, Washington before getting off at Union Station to catch the overnight train down to Savannah, Georgia. The Amtrak train travels about 600 miles from DC through Virginia and the Carolinas before reaching Georgia and takes about 11hrs (with lots of stops!).

We boarded the train at around 7.30pm, so unfortunately is was already getting dark and we didn't get to see any sights out of the window. We had chosen the cheapo option of just sleeping in normal coach seats, instead of the more expensive option of a 'roomette', which has your own bed and toilet, but costs about $300 more! We figured we wouldn't sleep anyway - and we were right...the train hurtled through the night, continuously blowing its horn as it crossed railroad after railroad. Some of the stations we stopped at were little more than a small shed with a lamp outside! Real deep south American countryside. We had absolutely no idea what to expect once we reached our destination of Savannah....
