11/09/2009 - Visited Ground Zero. The weather was dreadfull - wet and windy. The atmosphere was eerily quiet and everybody seemed deep in thought. The whole thing affected our mood for the rest of the day. Being in New York on 9/11 gave us an insight into what it must have been like for New Yorkers on that day back in 2001.
Left Ground Zero and headed for Chinatown. Dont think it was what Laura expected, but it was just how I imagined having seen Big Trouble in Little China!!! We stopped off for dinner at a dumpling house - wicked dim sum and noodles and a waiter with New York attitude! Got a bit lost looking for the subway station on the way back and stumbled through a couple of moody streets, but made it home safe in the end!
12/09/2009 - Woke up to discover that 8th Ave had been turned into a street market. Took a stroll around and soaked up the atmosphere. Apart from taking our laundry to the local laundromat (service with a smile - NOT!), we spent the rest of the day relaxing in the apartment. Take out pizza and movies on cable - bliss!
