Saturday 16th Cote de Azure - Berner Oberland
Today was a big driving day mainly north through Italy, 600 odd k. We started out by taking a wrong toll lane on the autoroute and found ourselves on a backroad looking down on Monaco, beaut views from up high. We had to back track a couple of hundred k back along the coast ( the scenery is probably better in this direction) as far as Genova and then north via Milano and under the mountains to Interlaken. Just bye the bye, if you are ever driving in Italy dont try and save money by avoiding the autostradas, they are there for a very good reason!!
Now we thought we had seen tunnels, Switzerland has topped the lot, 20k, 10k, 5k,s are run of the mill, and we havent paid a toll!! which reminds me I am supposed to buy a vignette, oops!! We booked into a park at Grindelwald, 20k south of Interlaken called Eigernordwand, this place is a true Swiss mountain village underneath the shadows of the mountains surrounding Jungfau and Schilthorn, cows with bells ringing everywhere and getting herded into their barns for the night. The hiking season doesnt start for a couple of weeks so it is nice and quiet, there is only one other tent in the campground.
