Well we are parked up at the show grounds here again at $10 pn , I think it is two years since we were here. Nice quiet spot to catch up with washing and odd jobs etc, but it was a bit harder to get into this time because the gates were locked. There is a phone number to ring and the caretaker let us in, it is a temporary measure while the horse flu scare is on. It is a big horse town and there is a trotting track in the show grounds and they are keeping out anyone who may be tempted to move their horse and bring it for exercise!!
Of course Parkes main claim to fame is " The Dish"

. Just get the feeling the town is struggling a bit, the drought and horse flu might be taking a toll. Doesn't seem to be as vibrant as last time, and the shopping centres have that air of doing it tough. They put on a few things at different times of the year, a country music muster and an Elvis week, so they are really trying!
Oh, and about the Newell, there was a bit on TV tonight, over 1000 B doubles use the road each day, thats why all the towns are lining up for a bypass, and why I don't particularly like driving on it!!!!
