We left Marzamemi at 7am and reached Malta at 1730.  A crossing of 68nm starting with a calm sea and then increased swell followed by turbulent waters with increased wind of 22knots against us to end it and Dunkolu slamming into the waves until we got some shelter from the island as we approached.

The entrance to Grand Harbour and Valletta is certainly spectacular when you get round St Elmo's lighthouse.  It has a golden glow about it because all the buildings both old and new are built of sandstone.  We got into Kalkara marina easily with help from the marina staff and one of the Valda's crew and at once were invited for drinks with them which we happily accepted after tying up securely.  So we met the wives and the crew and had a sociable 30 minutes or so with them. We hadn't eaten much so we had to go and find something to eat and we stopped at the bar nearest us in the marina.

Next day we had breakfast sitting in the cockpit in the warmth of the sun and then went into Valletta and had lunch sitting outside in a square after finding M&S and buying a couple of things there.  Oh, it's so nice to be warm again.

We are home on the 19th March for a week for Steve's birthday so I am signing out for awhile now.
Please contact us on email as we love to hear from you all.
