Tomas Maestra Marina, Mar Menor

Since leaving Garrucha  we have been anchoring for the last 7 days in the most amazing settings.  With the boat full of provisions and water we were able to stay out of ports or marinas until today.  The weather  has been  fabulous and we have swum from the boat everyday.

Yesterday we had to reach Cabo de Palos for an overnight anchorage before getting to Mar Memor )an interior sea behind a sand dune barrier).  We began with a little following breeze and as the day went along the wind gradually increased so that we could put the cruising chute up for a smooth sail towards our destination.  It was an uneventful passage until 2 separate dolphin sightings gave us some excitement.  They didn´t swim with us this time but were leaping out of the water and hunting down their lunch....we think?

The wind increased to 18 knots and we had a great finish to the day´s sail arriving at our anchorage at 5pm...6 hours later.  the view from the boat was totally different with high rise apartment blocks all the way along the sand dune.   We anchored in the bay near to the lighthouse which was very windy but the swell was non-existent for a change.  the wind completley died down later so much that the sea was like a millpond.  A calm night´s sleep without rocking was welcome before moving onto Mar Menor next day.

We had rain during the night and in the morning I was awoken by the boat rocking and the wind whistling round again.  The wind direction had completely moved round and was now coming straight at us at 18 knots.  We got up and had a quick cuppa before weighing anchor and heading straight over to Mar Menor under 7 nm away with the motor on full!  We knew the bridge lifted on the even hour from 10am a tip gleaned from our new friends Jeff and Vicky.

With great timing we got there on the dot and the bridge opened as we approached.!  Thanks for that guys.

So here we are in the marina.  for yachties information we have been charged 25E winter rate inclusive of electricity and water.  Steve said the marina office staff were not pleasant and were offhand giving off a ¨take it or leave it¨attitude.  We have to go and find an internet cafe because the wifi is only for their members!  Anyway, one night here and we anchor in the inner sea for 3 nights so not alot more contact from us for a while.

Pictures to follow as in a pay for bar at the momemt.

Hi Jilly!
sounds wonderful-especially the "mill-pond" bit. Must've been a super night's sleep after some of the "moving" ones you have had! Looking forward to seeing you soon, love, us xx
