Pacific Ocean – at sea for 8 days 9 – 16th February 2011
We are now enjoying the third day at sea and have five more to go before we reach Papeete, Tahiti. We are looking forward to that and the following day to the islands of Bora Bora. We have two trips lined up – Mountain Safari in Papeete and a Trip on the lagoon with snorkelling and a picnic which will be for six and a half hours.
Prior to each Port Call we have talks with a power point presentation on what to see and do. When we get to Bora Bora there will be another Cruise liner in port, so local taxis etc will be few and far between hence we quickly booked the extra trip to the Lagoon, which we know we will enjoy.
On board for the 8 days we are extremely busy and I am so impressed with the organisation of the program for things to do. Each day Dr Olga Stavrakvis Ph D is giving a lecture on the South Pacific , the formation of the islands, the peoples distribution. It is wonderful to hear how the area developed and yes, Sophie, I too now know about the "Ring of Fire" and something about the South Pacific Plate. We also have lectures on the Monarchy, cannot attend all, due to the fact I am learning Bridge, and yesterday, we had a talk from Tim Wonnacott of Bargain Hunt, and what a wonderful talk it was, with the packed Theatre (standing down the sides) laughing at the anecdotes that had happened to him during his career as an Auctioneer for Sotherbys. We are looking forward to more talks from Tim and Olga.
Choir is progressing nicely!! Don't think my singing is improving though . . . We are performing Oliver in our second Concert on the 11th February. Dad’s painting is progressing, and is learning more and more techniques. A couple of pictures to show we are doing these activities.
Love to all
