The next day we woke up fairly early and went further westward to San Antonio to see the famed, Alamo. However, due to Ethan feeling a little sick and a Texas rain shower our visit consisted of touring the site and looking at some of Davy Crockett's artifacts. We did however read the most famous part of the Alamo history with hundreds of other Texans. Remember the Alamo! We also briefly went to one of the missions (excluding the Alamo, since it used to be a mission as well) to see some of the original Spanish architecture. There were still some of the original frescos from the eighteenth century. After the mission, we went north for a short trip to Austin. We found a co-op which had really cheap rates and is used year round by University of Texas students. They cook, clean and maintain the place. Since the rooms are like college dorms, during the summer they rent out the rooms for cheap which struck a chord with us! Then we ate dinner at Ruby's BBQ, an organic ribs place where Ethan had some excellent brisket and Jill continued her boycotting of smoked meats and went with the vegetarian jambalaya. Then it was off to Fourth Street to check out Austin night life which was pretty cool!
