Quick post today as yesterday was mainly driving. We finally made it back to the mountains! The Smokies that is. We drove from Atlanta to Great Smoky Mountains National Park.  We ended up selecting a cabin in Pigeon Forge on the Tennessee side of the park so we spent the majority of our day meandering through the main road of the park - Newfound Gap Road - and selecting a few trails to hike.

Our main hike was Clingman's Dome, a 2.5 mile no joke loop. We also took Sailor on his first mini hike and he loved it! You can tell by his smile in the picture that there is plenty more hiking ahead for this dog...whether he likes it or not, we are moving to Colorado. Clingman's Dome hike itself was great, the views were unparalleled. However, the amount of people on the trail was overwhelming. This is the most visited National Park, and I have to say one of the only ones I've seen a great number of U.S. citizens (out west it's mostly foreigners).

It's nice to be in a cabin for a few days, feels a bit like home. We're getting to cook our own meals, watch the Olympics and get to bed on time. Tomorrow we're exploring other driving areas of the park and doing a waterfall hike.
