Baņos is a very pretty wee town in the middle of a valley near a volcano which erupted last year! It is probably the most touristy place we have been so far, but not in a bad way as we met loads of nice travelers. There was loads of stuff on offer to do.
We hired a buggy/go kart thing with the idea that we would be taken or told where to go for some sort of dirt track or something, but no. We just drove on the road, with the lorries, and the truck, and it only went about 25mph! To add to our concern, we were stopped by the police about 30 seconds after we set off saying we were not allowed on that road! Whoops! We also went through a few very long, dark and wet tunnels which were pretty terrifying due to very very bad lights on our vehicle. We had been wanting to drive in South America but were a little concerned when our guide didnīt even want to see our drivers license. Was fun though!
We went to some thermal baths outside underneath a big waterfall. They were lovely and warm and very relaxing other than the wierdo man following us around. Although when he wasnīt following us he was singing to the walls though so we think we will let him off.
We took a trip to Puyo and found this random woman's house who has a "monkey sanctuary" in her garden/jungle. It was really cool, we had loads of monkeys crawling and jumping all over us! They were very funny and clever...as soon as we arrived they came up and stole all they could from us! Stole sweets from Hevīs pockets and tried getting into Jillīs bag.
We stayed at an amazing hostel called Plantas y blanco which had delicious breakfasts and a steam bath thing which was CRAZY! You have your body in a steam box with your head poking out and then the guy makes you get out and has various cold water torture activities including throwing freezing water on you, a cold water hose and making you lie in a cold water bath and massage your bowels!
Baņos was lovely and we were very sad to leave.
