Although Puerto Natales has much to offer, it's mainly the gateway to get to Torres del Paine National Park. I was happy to have an open day to relax and walk around the town. The city is situated right by the water and has an incredible view of the mountains.
There was a prehistoric animal found near the city and somehow it ended up as the mascot of the city. According to my local buddy, not everyone likes it because it's a representation of what the animal must have looked like. The animal is a huge statue welcoming people into the city and is found on some of the signs too. Equally strange was how the telecom, movistar, had their name on many of the signs. Apparently, they had sponsored the signs but the irony is that their service is the most expensive and one of the least reliable there (as my local buddy said).
