Flag of Chile  , Patagonia,

About a week before, I decided that I wanted to explore Patagonia. The initial idea was to start in the far south and gradually make my way up to meet my friends in Pichilemu. It was sort of my own Amazing Race (like the television show). I didn't plan much except for approximately where I wanted to go. The only booking I had was my flight from Santiago to Punta Arenas and a hostel booking at my destination.

I arrived at the airport in Punta Arenas a bit shocked. It struck me just how far south I was when I saw that flights were arriving from Antarctica too. I rode in a van which worked as a taxi. The driver was humorous and when he asked about where I wanted to go, he joked... "Puerto Montt? Santiago?" (which were the cities he knew I had just flown from). I think it was 3.000 pesos and he dropped everyone off at their hotels/hostels. He did show a few signs of road rage.

The city was mostly gray and much colder than the in Viņa, which was now over 1200 miles or 3000km away. Considering that it was summer, I was freezing. Eventually I warmed up, especially after having a nice dinner nearby at a place called Sabores del Mundo right around the corner. There, I ate with another girl staying in the hostel, and we ordered centollla (king crab). It was the best meal I had eaten in a while. So delicious!
