Flag of China  , Chongqing,
Saturday, January 23, 2010

Located within the Sichuan province, Chongqing lies on the western side of China and is known for hot food.  The city itself has been largely industrialized and isn't really a walk in the park, so to speak.  In fact, I found that it was surprisingly grayer than Beijing.  That was a bit disturbing.  On the plus side, it has a unique terrain surrounded by large rivers and rests almost on an island with multiple levels.  To give you an idea, no one bikes because of the hills.

Other points worth mentioning:
- One might say that you can grasp a picture of "true China" or rather, how does daily life look like for a city that is not in the spotlight?  Just walking the streets give you a balanced perspective that things are still quite under development.
- Another interesting note, was that since it wasn't a place heavy with tourists, the markets seemed to be friendlier to strangers.  There was one extremely bad experience which I will not go into detail that involves a coworker having her wallet stolen, but I don't want to regard that as common.
- Thirdly, I must say that there are rumors of the city having more beautiful girls than average.  Unfortunately, I was not there long enough to really say.  In the days that I was, I can neither confirm nor refute this.  If anything, I believe it is marketing hype.

All in all, the city is worth passing through to see for a few days, but does not require a thorough visit.  Unless you are one who cannot resist spicy food.  Just make sure to bring your own tissues. =P
