So spent my first day in London with Stace on Monday - was really glad that I woke up in the morning and vertigo had mostly disappeared - Sunday night was terrible for it so we had a couple of wines so that at least I had a reason to feel like the world kept moving underneath me. Woke up perky as anything at 7.30 and we ventured into Chelsea. Think Miami, like you see on the tv, minus the fake tan, and a little more quaint, and you have Chelsea. Beamers and ferraris were lining the roads and all the shops you've heard of (i.e., Hugo Boss, French Connection etc) were there. It was quite darling actually and i found a salad bar which would be my regular if I were to ever live in London (not such a far off idea - I quite like it here!)
However, we got home at about 4.30 and after lazing around for a bit i decided i would go for a nap at about 5pm. I slept straight through til 7.30 the next morning - minus the time at 2.30am when i suddenly found myself wide awake only to conk out again half an hour later. Weird.....
Since then I've had a couple more days in the city which included more shopping and finding some instant favourites (i.e, Rockit, the vintage shop; Paul & Joe, my new favourite designers) and getting really sick of seeing "Pret a Manger" shops everywhere! I don't even know what they are really but I just hate the name, it doesn't sound nice when I say it in my head.
I have so far made a few purchases, however one stands out. My new best friend, my shoulder bag. She is made of a deep tan leather and has all the compartments i could possible want, she really understands my needs. It will be good travelling with her.
Apart from the retail therapy, I am still being awed everytime i walk down the street and notice how old and beautiful all the buildings are. It is just such a beautiful, beautiful city and even though i'm feeling very homesick i find i can just walk through the streets and feel better :)
The parks are fantastic too - St James's was my choice today and the highlight was the squirrels!! SO. GORGEOUS. I do wish I could take one back to NZ with me. they are so friendly too! I have a picture of one crawling up a boys leg to get some food he's offering. Adorable...
St Jame's Square and the little alleys of shops were really lovely and relaxing. Although i was a bit out of place in my sneans - the shops were aimed more at the more mature business class, but hey.
Time got away on me though and by time i got him it was 8.30pm!!! I lost track because all the shops are open til 7pm and some til 9pm every weekday! and it is so light here now that its coming into summer, I just had no idea what the time was. So in the end it was a solid 10 hours of shopping and wandering around, pretty good effort i thought!
Yesterday i did not too much, but ended the night by meeting up with Tom (Jessie's friend from her own travels). He took me to Dirty Dicks, apparently one of the oldest pubs around, where we had g&t's with cucumber in them (yumMY!) before heading to Eat, Drink Chinese - the karaoke bar. What a stunner of a night, Tom and his friends kept us entertained with the classics and then I finished off at about 1.30am with Ironic (couldn't resist). Then had a guy try to convince me to get in touch with his brother who works in a recording studio because based on my early morning karaoke, his drunken ears were telling him I was gona be the next big thing! Fun times!
Then crashed at Tom's on super comfy couch and got to see a bit of London from his roof top whilst sipping peppermint tea. Lovely. And that's as far as I can be bothered writing tonight - I'll update on the latest tomorrow once I've loaded some photos. Night all!
