Miami international airport is horendous. I've been to better airports in developing countries! It's very reminiscent of the 1970s (not that I really know...), has the WORST design ever, and is in dire need of industrial engineers. (Kate, you should offer your services!) I waited in a security line of about 20 people, for, no word of a lie, 45 minutes. It was sooooooo frustrating. Fortunately, I was insanely early for my flight (as per), so I was still early for my flight.
About the cruise....I had a good time! However, I'm not sure that I would do it again. Carmella had a good point when she said it would be a great way to dive if that was what you were into. So maybe if I someday really get into diving, I'd take another cruise, but I found it a little bit boring. Certainly, dinners were tons of fun - sharing stories with everyone, eating as much as we humanly could.....but overall, a little bit dull. Certainly the highlights for me were our day trips, especially when we were in Mexico.
On the cruise, you got these cruise cards. Basically, they were like credit cards that you used to pay for everything that wasn't included, and they were also your room key, and your boarding pass. It was really interesting - I can see how people could rack up HUGE bills....you just swiped your card, and it was like magic! The cards were automatically linked to a credit card, so you could run up as big a bill as your credit limit - how crazy! Kate and I showed considerable constraint. Between the two of us, we spent less than 200$ US, including 50$ for my internet connection, two bottles of wine and ground transportation from the ship. So very little in the way of other stuff was actually bought.
I think another reason why I wasn't that excited about the cruise is that I'm not all about the sun anymore. I think that my skin has just had enough! Who would have thought? I think that might be my last "sun" vacation for a while. Well, let's be honest, it'll be my last vacation for a while! The tax man has essentially ended my ability to travel for the next while. :( I know, no India or Iran this year.
Today may have set an all-new record for the most types of transport taken in one day: boat, bus, plane, plane, bus, train, car!
So with that, my Latin American adventure ends. I'm not sure when I'll get back to the region...probably a lot sooner than I think, since there are tons of cheap flights. So, until my next trip!!
