I woke up this morning brutally sick. Well, not the sickest I've ever been (see the entries about Dengue), but it was pretty awful. However, I did manage to sleep pretty darn soundly, which is good. So at 4, I was up and getting ready for my trip to the airport.

There wasn't much excitement on the trip to the airport, other than the casual conversation with the driver. Lots of questions about why I'm 26, unmarried, no kids...the usual Latin America stuff. Questions that would be quite rude here....but totally normal there, since ALL women want to get married and have lots of kids, right??? Anyway....after a while I pretended like I didn't understand his questions, and he eventually shut up.

The flight home was good (we arrived early!!) and Ross was at the airport to greet me....yes, I'm a very lucky girl. :)

I think the highlights of my trip were actually in the last 24 hours when my grasp of the Spanish language really came to a head. I had a successful conversation on the phone with the receptionist at the hotel (quite the feat, since most of my conversations rely heavily on hand gestures!) and translated for a lady at the airport. Yay! I'd say that I'm now officially functional. I'm quite pleased with that!!

Overall it was a pretty nice trip. I think if I could do it again, I'd take a friend with me, and drive through the country since gas is so cheap and the roads are good. That way you'd really get to see the cool stuff in Venezuela and not be stuck on buses or really expensive airplanes!
