ooooh sketchy bus rides. I left Antigue this morning and got a bus in Guatemala city for El Salvador. I met a great Brit, Sasha, and we hung out at the very very dodgy bus station for a while. We met this guy who we assumed was our bus driver, and he tried to sell Sasha some coke (not the kind you drink). And he was clearly using. So I was a little scared of that. Turns out he was just the host, and not the driver. Good thing!

We all got frisked on the bus and our bags checked....however, several people were clearly carrying guns which didn't seem to be a problem. We're not sure what they were looking for if it wasn't weapons!!

The bus ride was a bus ride...about five hours, second class bus, no bathroom breaks. The border crossing was fine...no strange fees (actually, no fees at all) and they didn't even stamp my passport when I came into the country.

San Salvador is.....crazy. I was super super super scared when I first got here because it seems to be a hugely high crime area. Everyone has electrified barbed wire fencing, two gates on their houses and some have armed guards. However, as I walked around (brave, I know!) it dawned on me that Salvadorans might just be that paranoid, as there weren't many dodgy people out and everyone seemed to be walking. Anyway, that made me feel a little better, so that's what I'll choose to believe.

Regardless, there isn't much going on here, so I'm going to head out tomorrow and see if I can find my Aussie friends at the beach. If not, I'm going to stay in a nice hotel with a pool and work on my tan for a day. Or two.
