We crossed the river into French Guinea We were greeted by a sign stating we were now in France. The immagration booth was closed so we walked on and came to the local spermarket where a man who spoke english helped us. He called us a taxi. He told us town was wayy over there waving his hand in one direction and as we need an ATM he waved his hand in the other direction stating they were very far away. The price was 5 Euros to the atm and 5 Euros from there to town. We had no choice but to go.
about 300m down the road was the atm. We assured him that we were paying 5 Euros for the atm, he replied yes. We were blown away and angry. How far was town? We got our Euros out at the atm and we drove another 400m into town. Geee French Guinea......
We found a place that let us put up hammocks for 10 Euros each cant complain we decided to come here.
The next morning we visited the Camp de Transportation which was a prison camp or a holding place for criminals that france sent to French Guinea. Not a bad idea off load your bad guys to the other side of the world.
We got shown the run down camp which was quite interesting but our tour seemed to go on for ever.....
We got to see the rooms which were made for 30 people but 80 got put inside. We got to see the small rooms where they got punished (not shackled to the bed for 3days with out food or water (no wonder 90% of the prisoners died or yellow fever and malaria.
They had an execution area where the prisoners were made to watch another prisoners head get lopped off.
The camp closed after papillion (long story short) got moved to another camp, escaped to Venezuela and told the world about how in humane the prison was)
After that we waited for a bus that never came after being told buses no longer. We hitched a ride in the rain to the coast. I never thought id be one of those sad backpackers waiting in the rain with a sign stating your destination. We got there for 30 Euros. we didnt mind to much a taxi would have been 100 Euros and there were no buses.
