Lucky Bay

Driving into Cape Le Grand National Park we were greeted by some amazing rock formations all over the park. Passing the largest of them all, Frenchman's Peak, we arrived shortly after at Lucky Bay and were immediately impressed by the view we got from the camping ground. We set up in a great spot, with better facilities than some of the caravan parks we've been to. A short time later Mocca arrived with Mum and Val.

Mum had been keen to spoil us and insisted on supplying lunch, on arrival she produced 36 rolls, chickens(3), salads, drinks and gifts for the kids, It was her way of thanking us and it was really appreciated, we were still eating the chicken and rolls three days later. A feast was had by all, now it was time to relax. We jumped into the car and drove it down onto one of the most amazing beaches I have ever seen, I wish I had video of mums face as she saw it for the first time, grinning from ear to ear being blown away by the magnificent surroundings. With a fantastic 25 deg day it was Lucky Bay at its best, the kids were straight into the water on a surfboard Val had lent us while the adults pulled up a chair and enjoyed the beach voted to have the whitest sand in the world. Seeing Mum and Mocca together in these surroundings enjoying a beer together was great for both us and them and we can now all see why he has relocated to the other side of the country. A couple of hours later we returned to the camp for a few more drinks and goodbye to Mum as Mocca and Val were keen to show Mum a few more sights within the park.

The following morning Coop and Thommo were off to try their luck fishing as the kids presented Tan with her mothers day gift, Kylie Minogue Perfume, then it was off to climb the massive rock bluff that overlooks the bay. Not only providing magnificent views the bluff provided great mobile reception allowing Tan to ring Wendy and Lucy to ring Deb for a special Mothers day hello. It was the first time I've senced Tan being a little home sick as she's really close to her Mum, so Wendy and Ray anytime, anyplace we would be happy to have you. With the fishermen not having any luck it was pancakes for breakfast as we watched a pod of dolphins enter the bay. Tan arranged with Thommo for him to take the kids around to Hell Fire Bay in the car allowing us to go for a rare run together meeting them at Hell Fire Bay. We loved the freedom made possible by Thommo as we ran along coastal trails, rocky headlands and secluded beaches finally arriving there an hour and a half later, to find Thommo entertaining our kids once again as fish were being dragged up onto the rocks nearby. It must have been killing him. We stayed on the beach for ages, Thommo grabbed his rod off the car and fished off the sand and the rocks, didn't catch much but he didn't seem to care.

Arriving back at camp to find Steve, Nicole and the kids had arrived, just as we thought the kids were running out of steam they were off again swimming, climbing and running around as the first clouds we had seen in a week appeared forcing us inside for a night of cherades, games and joking around. We really loved having Lucy with us these past few days, she loved everything we did and appreciate Deb and Martin sending her over to share part of our journey. She tells us next time I'll bring Mum and Dad, we hope so too Lucy.

An early start the next morning had us driving Thommo, Lucy and Mum to the airport, after a quick stop on the beach to grab a handful of that white Lucky Bay sand for Lucy to present at show and tell on Tuesday, we were on our way. Saying goodbye at the airport was sad as it meant the end of a fantastic five days and the beginning of five months without seeing Mum, Lucy and Thommo. However, this may not be the case as Mum is now talking about catching up with us in Broome. Not sure but would love it to happen, does anybody know a good chaperone?

Returning to camp Tan and the boys had packed up the van, ready to move on, we were all feeling a bit hollow as we drove out of Cape Le Grand National park and the Esperance area. We talked about the great time we had with our guests and the memorys we would keep. As for Esperance it certainly lives up to its slogan, "the best beaches in the Australia".

Princess Pammie you would love it over here. We are all at one with nature, loving having breakfast at the National Park and seeing dolphins swim past and are just waiting now for the whales to come through, apparently they are not too far away now.
