Hey so I've never done one of these before but i thought it might be interesting! ;) I just got to Aubrey's mom's house after a day of travel. I started out on a train from Santa Clara to Sacramento after having gotten only 2 hours of sleep. I was running around like a chicken with its head cutoff trying to pack the night before and spent most of that first hour of the train ride just texting people back and forth. Natalie, a friend of Aubrey's and I, who is also going on the trip with us, got on the train in Richmond and met me where i was seated. We talked about various things including art history at SFSU, and plans that we have for ourselves in the future. It was nice to reconnect with her in this way before our trip north to OR and then WA with the rest of the girls. When the train had come to Sacramento, we got off. I found this to be rather cumbersome with my two large pieces of luggage, a sleeping bag, Pilate's mat, and tote. Perhaps I packed to much? Oh well, Aubrey's getting the sleeping bag and mat at the end of this trip, i thought to myself. Luckily Natalie saw my struggles after exiting the train and was more than willing to help. Then Natalie's dad and step-mom came to pick us up.
Both of her parents seem really nice. They took us to this plant nursery first, that with the inclusion of a green house, would be any plant lover's paradise. It also contained fountains, an array of garden art, rugs for sale, and sculpture pieces! I was impressed. Next we went to lunch at a place called Awful Annie's in Auburn CA. Let's just say it was awful! Haha not. I had a BLT and some soup. Mmmm. It was also neat that there was a street fair going on at this location. Antiques were being sold galore! We only paroozed the premises however before returning to Natalie's parent's car. We then drove to Natalie's parent's house near Lake Wildwood, outside of Penn Valley, CA. Her parent's house was nice! I swung on the swing in the backyard. Yes it is true, this whole graduating and entering the real world thing still has not hit me yet. Next Aubrey came to pick me up and show me around. First we drove through downtown Grass Valley, and then next she showed me Nevada City. Both cities are old mining towns, with saloons and everything. As we climbed the car up the hill of the downtown area of Nevada City however, with its picturesque shops and things, I suddenly realized that I had been there before! When we reached the top, I was sure that the tall white methodist church Aubrey was referring to of where her parents got married was the same exact church I stayed with w/ my youth group almost a decade before.
Next we went back to Aubrey's where we were greeted by several small dogs. Her mom was mowing the grass out front. We then got our things together and went to small group. This group consisted of twenty or so college aged individuals which was lead by a man named Rick, assistant youth paster & leader of the college ministries at Aubrey's church. After a deep discussion on prophesy and talking in tongues, and whether or not people believed that existed, a very familiar looking guy came in through the front door to join the group. He was from Humboldt! Only later did Aubrey recognize him from seeing him at the photo lab at HSU. Small world! Had I not been there, that connection may have never been made... Now I am back at home, well Aubrey's mom's home, but it feels like home to me. It is weird, but after spending so much time together with either one of my roommates, anywhere i am with them now feels like home ;) Now to publish this and get some rest. A looong trip awaits tomorrow!

Great travel log, Jessica. I was wondering how you would get to Grass Valley! Yes, you have been to Nevada City before, with your youth group and also with the family at the family reunion in Tahoe 1998. We went to see the silver mines.
Have a great and save trip, give my love to Irene and Aubrey, and of course Natalie, even though I don't know her. MOM
