Some may call it careless, some may say unfortunate, whatever you call it Bolivia has lost all its coastline and is now land-locked. Which leaves the question, where do you go for a beach holiday ??
The answer for Bolivians is Copacabana - certainly not the hottest place North of Havana but definitely the highest beach side location anywhere. Perched at a slightly giddy 3900m, Copacabana was a good place to relax up after all the trekking in Peru. Chill out, drink beers on the beach, and maybe take the boat over the nearby Isla del Sol.
This is what most sane people would do. We however, decided to walk along the shores of the lake, fully laden with packs for the first time, and get a boat from a small hamlet 17kms away. As a local enquired to us as we breathlessly passed by - you do know there is a boat from Copacabana don't you ???
