As you know, I am in Northern Norway on my week-long excursion. So far it has been a lot of fun. I am currently in Trondheim, but I am just going to say that I am in Røros for fun (and so I can get a little pin on my map of Norway!)

We left bright and early on Monday morning and took a train from Hamar to Røros. The scenery was beautiful! I really enjoyed the trip and we all just sat around and talked. When we stepped off the train and it was cold. I was really surprised. It was warm enough that I did not need to whip out my gloves, hat, and scarf, but it was a big difference compared to Hamar. I think just because Hamar is by the water and Røros is in the middle of Norway.

Røros is mainly a historical town. It has a little under 5,000 inhabitants (if I am remembering right) and also has the remains of the coal industry. There are huge piles of rocks leftover and it really is not very attractive, but it explains a lot of how Røros is. We had a guided tour all around and learned a lot about the houses, how they were built, and how to tell the difference between a rich family house compared to a poor family house. Our hotel was just up the hill, it was very cute. The rooms were large, but the bathrooms were out in the hall. Just like a normal house.

We had lunch and breakfast the next day. Mostly just sandwiches, meat, WAFFLES and coffee. We only stayed for one night. The next morning, we woke up and ate breakfast at 7 and at 8, we had to wait for the bus to take us to Heimdal, our next stop.
I will have to tell you about Heimdal and the rest of the trip later because I have to head off with the group to meet up with Inger at the Cathedral for the next part of our day.
I will be back on here regularly soon. Ha det bra!!

God Dag!

Keith sent me your blog because my husband, Tom and his entire family live in northern Norway. I work for your charming uncle. Anyway, we visit Norway with my two kids every two years. If you are driving north you may find yourself near Tom's home town. If so, I'm sure that my sister in law would love to show you her town and a tour of her furniture factory. She speaks great English too! You will find it more difficult as you head north to find fluent English speakers. After 20 years of marriage I still speak very little if any Norwegian and my trips to Norway are great but I tend to spend most of my time eating and drinking (one of their favorite past times) because I'm left in the dark in the language department. (100 percent my husband's fault) A great liquor to try is Laponia (made from local cloudberries or Multe) YUM!

The town is Hemnesberget and it is 45 Minutes from Mo I Rana. Another sister in law who teaches 5th greade English lives in Hjartland which is 30 minutes from Sandnesjoen on the coast. We have a beautiful rustic cabin just up the hill. Let us know if you'd like contact information. Amazingly beautiful area. We saw that they received snow this past week. Didn't you hear that June is the best time to visit Norhern Norway? :)

Anyway, Roros is one of my favorite towns. Definitely one of the oldest for sure. Lillehamer was another favorite. My husband Tom may drop you a line and give you some recommendations for Bodo and beyond.

Enjoy!
