Today we held day three of VBS with our Smokey Mountain kids. We purchased clothes, flip-flops and Clayton purchased lunch for them. They were thrilled to have a new outfit, and so excited to have their lunch. I saw many of them pack up their lunches and leave. I believe they were taking it to share with their families.

Mykelti made a great connection with Gino on the very first day. When Gino received his clothing, he got an outfit for his little sister as well and asked Mykelti to follow him to his house so he could show her. Mykelti quickly grabbed me and I followed with my camera.

We had to walk down a steep embankment to get to his house, which was perched on the side of a hill. He was so proud to show us his little sister. We took pictures and they were so happy! I noticed that Gino's little sister had sores on her head so I asked her mother if we could put medicine on them. She wanted to change her shirt first but I told her that was unnecessary. She already looked beautiful. She followed us back to where Aggie was dressing wounds, and Aggie applied ointment and bandages.

Aggie also dressed Losella's wounds for the third time. They were looking much better!

We met a man named Thomas who is from Switzwerland who was travelling here, and became a Christian here and is now living among the Smokey Mountain people. He runs a school for the children and often gives medical care. Many of us are hoping that through Thomas we will be able to make a bigger difference here. We will have to see where that leads.

On the first day we visited Smokey Mountain Ave was with Dick Devries when they met a woman who shared her story with them. She has three children, the middle son drown in the river 3 years ago when he was 16. The oldest daughter was in school training in the medical field so that she can get a good job and support her family and they just ran out of money to pay for school so she is unable to complete her course. Dick (and Ave) sat and prayed with the woman. Since then they have been talking about ways to help this family out. Today we went back to interview the woman, to confirm her story and get more details. We will be talking to the school to see if we are able to help pay for schooling for this young girl (through a grant given by one of our team member's employer). Ave was very touched to hear the family's story and excited to help them out. We will keep you posted on how this turns out.

This evening we headed out to a sports challenge hosted by our team in a small "park" in town. There were relay races for the little ones, basketball games, volleyball games, a message by Jamie Shurr, and prizes including a bicycle draw prize.

The team members that ran this event did a fantastic job, throwing their heart and soul into it. It was a great outreach.
