This morning we had a continental breakfast at Days Inn and made the long trek (5 minute walk with 3 kids) to Graceland to visit with the King of Rock & Roll. It was an eerily amazing experience! A walk back in time to the home of probably the most inspirational & revered person of our grandparents & parents generation. It was astonishing! Everything has been preserved from the time Elvis left this world. Everyone is given a headset so you can go through a self paced tour, the recordings guide you through Graceland with a well choreographed story for every room in the house and the Graceland grounds. Everywhere except the upstairs (Elvis's private rooms). A breathtaking experience. I was a little "All Shook Up" after visiting Elvis's grave at the Memory Gardens, on the grounds of the Estate!  After leaving the Graceland grounds we went & toured Elvis's private jets; the Lisa Marie (Elvis's flying Graceland) and another smaller Jet. We then saw some of his cars at Elvis's car museum. We also visited a few other artifact museums that were included in the Graceland Tour package. Very cool! The kids loved it but were dying to get back to the hotel to swim in the guitar shaped swimming pool. Temperatures were around 85 degrees, with a gentle breeze! While Jerri & the kids swam & sun bathed I walked up to a gas station & bought a 40 oz bottle of ice cold Miller Beer for $1.49. That was .50 cents cheaper than a 1 L bottle of Diet Coke. Tough call but I went for the beer! After a rest and some leftovers for lunch we went out to Wal-mart for some browsing and found it challenging to find a decent place to eat supper and finally settled on McDonald's after driving around Memphis looking for something decent. Believe it or not we are all getting sick of not eating home-cooked meals! One thing that really has surprised Jerri & I is the unexpectedly "rough" state of the community on Elvis Presley Blvd. The area was obviously built up around Graceland but almost seems Ghetto-ish.
Tomorrow we are off early for a full days drive to Florida...Jerri & I are thinking Tallahassee! Stay tuned!
