We left our cabin in the early morning. Linda made a noodle for breakfast in our little cabin kitchen which we enjoyed on the balcony. We loaded up the Altima and punched in the address for Zion National Park.

After around 2 hours of driving through the Nevada and Utah landscapes we reached the entrance of the Kolob canyons. We learned that this was a part of Zion National Park with a scenic drive through the canyon. We got some details from the visitors center and headed out on our drive up the winding road up to the viewpoint. From here we had beautiful views of the canyon. We got out of the car and hiked a bit up to the hill. The heat made the small hike quite an exercise, and as we did not anticipate any difficulty we went out without water and on our flip flops, not so smart, but we survived.

After our hike we enjoyed the air-conditioning of the Altima and headed to the south entrance, a good hour and a half drive from the Kobob entrance. On the way we stopped for a small bite and to book our next Hotel. We ended up in the Majestic Hotel in Springdale about 10 minutes away from the Zion south entrance. We got one of their last available rooms. We were promised a view over the red canyon walls from our balcony, but when we reached our room which was located across the street and opened our balcony door we saw a big tree in front of us. To the left and right of this tree we see some canyon wall though. We will try to catch the sunrise from our balcony tomorrow.

After we checked in we headed out to the park to join the 18:00 ranger guided tour of the park. It was nice and cool as the evening took away the heat from the canyon. The guided tour was informative, and we made another set of amazing photos. We now have an idea on where to go for our exploration tomorrow. After our tour we headed out for dinner. We stranded in a Mexican restaurant for the evening.

Returned from dinner we headed back to our Hotel with the “Majestic” views. We opened up the laptops and tried to connect to the Internet as the hotel promises to offers free WIFI. No such luck, there was no signal on our side of the road, we called the reception and they told us to try it outside on the balcony or otherwise come to the reception across the street and use WIFI from there. Across the street it was, as even on the balcony we did not receive anything. In the lobby of the Hotel stands an horrendous Christmas tree (a bit early in June I would think). But we were finally able to log in and get our emails. As we were busy checking mails and planning the coming days the evening receptionist started hovering around us, very annoying. But when the noise cleared Linda got to speak with her mommy on MSN and I got to write this bit.

Tomorrow we head back into the park, I hope we don't get fried in the heat.
