Late in the morning we headed out towards Napa valley. We decided to drive further along Highway 99 up north via Fresno, Madera, Merced and Modesto. It was quite a long drive and the 'scenery' was quite boring along the way although people advise this drive over interstate 5. To make good time we had a quick bite at a Denny's around Fresno.

We reached the Bay area around 16:00 so we were just before rush hour. We headed to our hotel for the night around 17:00. We booked the Vino Bello resort via Hotwire yesterday (whilst driving up to Hanford). Vino Bello is next to the Meritage as they are managed by the same group. The resort is more than we expected. We got a complete condo, with bedroom, living room, open (fully equipped) kitchen and a huge bathroom with whirlpool, great!. We explored the grounds and found that there was an estate winery, making the Trinitas wine, which we of course had to sample. The tasting room was located in caves under the vineyards. After our tasting we walked a bit around the vineyards and played a game of Bocce at the Hotel.

For the evening we had reservations at Bottega, the earliest we could get was 21:15. Bottega is the restaurant of Michael Chiarello, a Food network chef that won an Emmy Award with his show 'Easy Entertaining'. We had to wait for about 20 minutes for our table to be ready, but this was compensated by a complementary glass of Prosecco. The Menu is arranged in traditional Italian style, Antipasti, Paste and Secondi so we ordered three Anti Pasti, a Paste to share and a Secondi for each. The food was very nice and original but ordering so much was a mistake, as the portions of the Antipasti were big. Linda had to take most of her main dish back to the Hotel as she could not finish it. Luckily we have a kitchen in the hotel room where Linda made a a Noodle Soup breakfast the next morning.
