. They make an array of whites and reds and are about the biggest winery in the Santa Barbara valley. After the stop at the winery we cruised on towards LA. As we got closer to LA the roads became more unpleasant. 4 lane highways with the usual traffic jams marked our way to the Portofino hotel on Redando beach, which would be our stay for the night. The Hotel is combined with a Yacht club and is very comfortable. The atmosphere has a very nautical feel to it. We met up with Olivia, another 'Sacred Heart' friend of Linda. We had a lovely dinner in the Hotel Restaurant “Baleen” where we had some very nice Tuna dishes and an awesome flourless chocolate cake dessert. Linda and Olivia caught up on old school memories and the times gone by. After a lovely evening we retired to our room for the night. Tomorrow we will make our way to Napa, we will see how far we get and where we will stay.
The idea was to leave early this morning, but this remained yet an idea as we checked out of the Hotel at noon to head out for Los Angeles. We woke up early though to watch the Holland-Japan match, but we were not early enough so we just missed it. Good thing as I learned later, because the game was horrendous again. The results are good though so I don't know if I should be discontented or happy. So a little after noon we headed out to LA. We planned a stop at the Firestone winery for a tour and a tasting. On our way we stopped in Santa Maria for a brunch at a local Sushi place (Mikado) somewhere in a Mall. We enjoyed the food as it was fresh and well prepared. The chef must have thought that Linda was some kind of food critic as she was taking the usual food photos with her SLR camera. We got some extra signature dish on the house. Refueled we continued our way to the Firestone winery in Los Olivos. We arrived just in time for a tasting before our tour of the winery (or should I say factory). The tour was interesting and we learned that the Firestone winery was owned (and later sold) by the Firestone family (the same ones as from the tires)
