Good grief, what an amazing place the Hermitage is! Five buildings, joined seamlessly together, filled with vases and pots of malachite, lapis lazuli and jasper; suits of armour mounted on horseback; paintings by da Vinci, Cezanne, and others; sculptures and incredibly detailed mosaics. We spent almost three hours on a guided tour, being shown the sights and treasures of the Russian Empire. Very tiring, but an amazing experience.
We had afternoon tea at a pie shop called Штолле -- Shtolle -- which was very nice. My friend and I shared a meat pie and an apple pie, with a coffee each. Then we went for a walk down town, where we sat in a park for about an hour, talking and laughing. We have to book a taxi tomorrow, to take us to the airport on Saturday morning at 4, for our flight to Paris.
