Today was my "Rest Day". It was a good opportunity to do some jobs I wouldn't get done on riding days, due to tiredness or lack of time. I got my photos developed, checked my email and wrote some postcards. I also read a newspaper. The only newspaper written in English, that I could find was the Saudi gazette. I found the different writing style quite interesting e.g. when saying such and such happened on Thursday, the writer would just write such and such happened Thursday (no on). I thought that the spelling and grammar could have been improved upon.
I had two weighty meals today at lunchtime and at dinnertime. For lunch I had the same salad and Spanish omelette, at the same restaurant. Curiously, the price had gone up overnight from 30 Dirhams to 35 Dirhams. I gave the guy 30 and he seemed to accept it. Then I gave him the five as well. He gave me a positive thank-you gesture with his face and said something. So we understood each other. He understood that I remembered the price yesterday was lower. I understood that he had put the price up - he could see that I liked what he was selling, because I had come back again. At the end of the day, I didn't mind giving the extra five because I can afford it and the food is nice and cheap, compared to prices back home. However, I wanted him to know that I had noticed the price jump. Cheeky bugger.
Late in the day I went to the Alimentation General and bought one bar of chocolate. Exactly the same as the one I bought last night. That too had gone up. I said to the guy that it was only 8 Dirhams yesterday (instead of 11 that he was asking). He accepted it.
I bought neoprene support bandages today for my wrists and my left knee. If these make a difference, I should be able to make much quicker progress over the coming days. I should not be so uncomfortable on the bike, so will be able do long stretches, getting the power down.
I met the two girls staying in the room next to me. They are agriculture students here in Larache. We chatted for a while about nothing in particular.
