A hard day.  A mixed ride - hilly interspersed with long straight stretches of road.  I set off from Toledo at ten and arrived at Ciudad Real at just before six.  At 80 miles distance, that makes an average speed of 10mph, including numerous stops for food and taking photos.  The sun was really hot today - I slapped on some factor 30 cream when I saw my arms were going red.  Just as well.  My watch mark is getting whiter.
I can't believe how much I am eating.  So far today I have had two cake bars, a croissant, half a bag of nuts, a gel pouch, a Powerbar, 3 chocolate bars, and a large bag of crisps.  I have just been to a petrol station - the nearest available shop to the pension: I am too tired to walk into town - to buy food.  Donuts, cake bars, and bread-roll type sweet things will do nicely, thank-you.  And two more throwaway cameras.
No one at the pension speaks any English.  Under ordinary circumstances that would be great - practice my Spanish.  But, after 8 hours' riding, trying to find your accommodation when you are completely lost, you need some useful directions on the phone.  OK, I could have done my research a bit better.  Then you want to swiftly check in to your room, without taking 3-times as long to understand what is going on.  All adds to the fun, at the end of the day, I suppose.
