Can't believe quite how much has happened in the last few weeks - typical temperamental Tanzanian internet has made it difficult to write so I will have to catch up on the last few weeks in this space.
We decided a while back that we wanted to get some clothes made while we're out here (material is very cheap and cheerful out here and seamstresses are everywhere.) So after going material shopping we went to the seamstresses house and had dinner, and then she measured us for our clothes. I ordered a dress, skirt and some trousers which we have now received back and which look fab. Much fun.
The main excitement of the last few weeks was climbing kili. I left Arusha for Moshi on Tuesday, and then spent the night in Tarn Hut resorts with 6 others before beginning our climb. It was an incredibly tough thing to do, especially as you are forced to walk at a snail's pace (pole pole) the whole way in order to help you adjust to the altitude and in order to try and avoid getting altitude sickness. It was strange walking up and seeing the landscape change before your eyes - rainforest for the first few days, followed by marshland, then barren volcanic landscapes and finally glaciers at the very top. The walks were long and tiring but none so much as the walk on summit day to the top. After an exhausting walk to the the final huts we would be staying in nearest the top, we had dinner and then went to bed around 8.pm. We had three hours sleep before we were then woken up and climbed for about seven hours, sunmitting finally after sunrise at 7:10 at the Uhuru peak. It was incredible, the most amazing views of the landscape around you and the strangest feeling of being so high above the clouds and yet still being able to breathe. Took lots of pictures so hope to share them all with you when I get back!!
