We are staying in a lovely B&B in Miraflores, which is the nicest district of Lima. Seemingly safe to wander about, even at night. Which downtown Lima isn't. Our host, Angelo, is really lovely and Andrew spent an hour and a half chatting to him on the first night about places to go and things to do. A nice touch that someone would spend so much time on each guest!

We ventured out to the supermarket on the first night to get a few snacks for dinner and we were both asleep pretty early. The breakfast we got in the morning was far superior to the backpacker 'norm' - a basket of lovely fresh rolls, bananas, fruit juice, teas, cheese and butter/jam! Impressed.

Miraflores is a really nice tourist area and you can see the local authorities are really trying to make it safe for visitors. There is a large police presence; literally on the corner of every park.

We did a self-guided walking tour of Miraflores using a map supplied by Angelo. We headed over to the Love Park where there is a statue called 'El Beso' (the kiss) overlooking the Pacific Ocean. At this point Andrew and I came to the realisation that if we swam far enough, we would reach Australia again. Go figure.

We also walked along the cliffs, had a look in a shopping centre that is clearly aimed at tourists/wealthy Peruvians and wandered through some lovely markets. I would say one day walking around in Miraflores is enough as it is pretty compact.
