Today was the Swear-In Ceremony. It was held in Lokossa. Everything went smoothly and the weather was perfect. Maman, Papa, and Vince arrived for the ceremony, but left quickly afterwords so I didn't get to talk to them. I think they had to give some other people a ride home.
The ceremony itself was fairly boring. There were speeches by random Benin political figures, PC Admin, and the US Ambassador of Benin. Some Stagiaires/Volunteers gave speeches they had prepared in various local languages. This was mostly amusing to the family members (or Beninese people) in the audience who know the languages to begin with, as for us Stagiaires/Volunteers, we had no idea what the speeches stated
The actual swearing-in part was done as a mass group. We held up our right hands and repeated what the Ambassador said. After the ceremony, we had to sign a sheet of paper...the real oath/swear in.
After the ceremony, all of the New PCV's went over to a local buvette to celebrate. The buvette ran out of cold beers though, so that was a bit disappointing....not surprising though, considering it was serving 40 people.
We left Lokossa at 6pm. I had dinner at home, and then went to meet with the SED group at the Roof-Top bar at 9pm. It's a sad celebration, as well as happy. It's our "last" night together as one big group in Azovè.
