Aaacckkk! There were 2 cockroaches in my shower this morning. I decided to put off bathing until lunch...in hopes that they would be gone by then. They weren't...so, at lunch, I had my sister Sonja remove them.

I haven't seen the lizard yet today, but the spider is still here. I'm going to name her Charlotte, in honor of my Mom's favorite childhood book/movie...Charlotte's Web. Weird creatures always seem friendlier when they have names.

Another family member arrived today, Maman's neice. She'll be visiting for a month. I don't know her name exactly, because it's something in a local language. They call her something else though, and it's just as hard to say and remember. I think she's referred to as Zigwah, meaning "Petite" or something like that....Maman explained that she is called that because she is small for her age. She's 9, and I think she looks average for a 9 yr old.

I learned today that Grand-pere has 2 wives. (This is very common in Benin.) He has 3 kids with the wife I thought lived here, and he has 8 kids with the other wife. Papa and Tante and 2 of the set of 3 kids...I don't know anything about the other wife, where she lives, if she's still alive.

Class today wasn't too exciting for the most part, but there was one part that may be useful in the future. It's called PACA (I don't remember what it stands for) and basically it's a way of getting to know your community and the needs it has, based off of information the community members give you.

The lizard is still in my room. I found him again, sitting on the windowsill. His name will be Izzy....because (I think) that's the name of the lizard in The Magic School Bus.
